Powering Reliable BESS Commissioning with the Miro PQ45

Validating BESS Dynamic Performance with the Miro PQ45 Class A Power Quality Analyser

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are becoming an essential part of modern power networks, supporting renewable integration, frequency regulation and voltage stability. During commissioning, verifying the dynamic performance of a BESS is critical to ensure the system responds correctly to changing network conditions and meets project and utility requirements.

The CHK Power Quality Miro PQ45 Class A Power Quality Analyser provides engineers with a powerful tool for commissioning and performance validation. Its high resolution Multi Parameter Capture records voltage, current, active power, reactive power, apparent power, power factor and frequency at one cycle resolution, allowing fast electrical events to be captured and analysed with precision.

During commissioning, the PQ45 can be configured to trigger on frequency deviations, ROCOF, voltage dips, swells and user defined voltage or frequency thresholds. This enables commissioning engineers to verify BESS response times, observe system behaviour during contingency events and confirm compliance with network performance requirements.

Application Note – Using Miro PQ45 for BESS Commissioning v1.0

Using Citrus Software, engineers can review captured events, measure response and recovery times, analyse system performance and generate detailed engineering reports. The ability to export recorded data also supports project documentation, commissioning records and acceptance testing. The Miro PQ45 delivers the measurement accuracy and high speed event analysis required for today’s Battery Energy Storage System projects, providing utilities, EPC contractors, renewable energy developers and commissioning engineers with confidence that BESS installations are operating as designed before they are placed into service.

CHK Power Quality Announces EESA Silver Membership and Conference Participation

CHK Power Quality is pleased to announce its Silver Membership with the Electric Energy Society of Australia (EESA), reinforcing our commitment to supporting the Australian electricity industry through innovation, technical excellence and active collaboration with utilities, network operators, industry partners and the engineering community.

As part of this commitment, CHK Power Quality will be exhibiting at the EESA NSW Electric Energy Conference 2026, to be held on 2 September 2026 at the Swissôtel Sydney. The conference brings together leading organisations and technical experts to discuss the progress, challenges and opportunities associated with the NSW electricity transition, including renewable energy integration, transmission and distribution network transformation, digitalisation, customer impacts and network resilience.

At the exhibition, CHK Power Quality will present its latest Australian-developed technologies for power quality monitoring, electrical asset monitoring and digital network management. The display will feature the Miro range of Class A and Class S Power Quality Analysers, the AsMoSys cloud-based monitoring platform, Distribution Transformer Monitoring solutions, Low Voltage Network Monitoring systems, Rail Power Condition Monitoring solutions, together with permanent and portable monitoring equipment designed for utilities, renewable energy projects, rail infrastructure, industrial facilities and critical electrical assets.

With Australia’s electricity network undergoing significant transformation through increased penetration of renewable generation, battery energy storage systems, electric vehicle infrastructure and distributed energy resources, the need for continuous network monitoring and data driven asset management has never been greater. CHK Power Quality’s solutions enable engineers to monitor power quality, harmonics, voltage disturbances, transients, asset loading, energy performance and equipment health in real time, providing valuable operational intelligence to improve reliability, reduce maintenance costs and support informed engineering decisions.

The EESA NSW Electric Energy Conference provides an excellent opportunity to engage with industry professionals, exchange technical knowledge and explore practical solutions for the evolving electricity sector. CHK Power Quality looks forward to welcoming delegates to our exhibition stand to discuss current network challenges, demonstrate our latest technologies and showcase how our monitoring solutions are helping organisations build smarter, more resilient and more reliable electrical networks.
